Retail suffers slow start during the start of the Olympics

Apparently it was a slow start to the retail boom that the government expected for the Olympics this summer....

Sales were down as 1.5 million workers avoided the city center in order to work from home. This prompted the government to try create incentives to entice workers back into the center during the second week. Sales did increase slowly but the full figures wont be known for another month.

"Sales were more solid in the second week compared with the first, and footfall was up in double digits compared with last year," explained Jace Tyrell, spokesperson for the New West End Co., which was responsible for the emergency campaign. "Athletes and people generally chose to shop later, and anything with a London 2012 logo was flying off the shelves."
