Bridgeport, WV's, Sunmoon Apparel: A thrifty selection of timeless styles - WV News

Bridgeport's Sunmoon Apparel provides customers with a blast from the past with its 1970s boho-style selection of clothing and other groovy items.

Kaitlyn Glaspell, owner of the business, said everything in the shop is thrifted and handpicked for quality by herself and friend and coworker Darryan Ward. The pair travel throughout West Virginia and other states to rummage through and bring back the best finds.

"We handpick everything and keep that '70s boho style," she said. "We do those '70s jeans and (other) '70s styles. We have a lot of band T-shirts and we really think about what we put here," she said.

Sunmoon Apparel, Glaspell added, is far from a consignment shop.

"We don't just (carry) whatever," she said.

Some of her most popular items are "mom jeans" that Glaspell said sell quickly due to their comfort and style, band T-shirts, sweaters and "anything cropped."

The 1970s, she said, has always been her favorite era.

"It's cool, fascinating and it's just groovy," she said.

Glaspell combined her 1970s- era passion with a passion for thrifting, something she has been doing since her junior year of high school after watching Netflix's "Girl Boss" series and becoming inspired.

"She sells a bunch of vintage clothes, and I thought I could, too," she said.

At first, Glaspell operated only via her Instagram account, selling her wares online.

"I had the account for three years, then moved to the Hometown Market Place at Eastpointe. We were a vendor for seven months and got the opportunity to rent out two rooms at the Country Peddler for a great price. The people here at the Country Peddler are the sweetest. They're great people," she said.

Ward, a stylist, said she's known Glaspell for a number of years, but has only been working at Sunmoon Apparel since June.

"Since then, (we've) outgrown two vendors, and I feel so blessed to be on this journey with (her). I feel Sunmoon allows me to be a free spirit and express myself through clothing...," she said.

The Bridgeport location, she added, couldn't be more perfect.

When it comes to the style and selection at Sunmoon Apparel, Glaspell brings something to the area that is unique as well as something people are interested in.

Though she has only been operating in Bridgeport since the first of the month, she said business in general has been doing well. In addition, she has met many memorable people who have come to browse.

"I meet cool people every day," she said. "It's so cool meeting all these people that live locally."

Eventually, she said, she may want to expand her business to a larger scale, but for now she is happy and content with how things have progressed. Her next addition in the coming weeks, she said, will be the addition of small plants, such as cacti and succulents.

Glaspell invited those in the community to come and have a look at what they have to offer and potentially make a friend while doing so.

"You don't have to just come in and buy, you can come in and hang out. We have couches, chairs and play good music. It's not just a shop," she said.

At the end of April, Glaspell said Ward and she will travel to California, closing the store for a week to search for new additions to the shop. The pair plans to pack lightly, traveling with only a backpack and challenging themselves to thrift their wardrobe, bringing it back, as well as other thrifts, to sell at the shop.

To chronicle their adventures, Glaspell said they will post their finds on the business's Instagram account, giving their followers a sneak peak as to what's coming back to the Mountain State.

Sun Moon Apparel is located at 202 E. Main St. It's hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

3 Apparel Stocks Look Fitting Near Key Support Levels - Investopedia

Posted: 31 Jan 2020 05:46 AM PST

Sluggish domestic sales, shifting consumer purchasing patterns, and the drawn-out U.S.-China trade war presented a constant overhang for apparel stocks in 2019. While the group has gained 10.88% over the past year, the S&P 500 wears a return of more than twice that.

Moving into 2020, leading apparel companies continue to bolster their digital initiatives, expand licensing agreements, and expand their reach into less saturated markets outside the United States. Moreover, ongoing efficiency improvements should help combat margin pressures caused by increased operational and marketing costs.

From a valuation standpoint, the industry trades at around 18 times this year's projected earnings – roughly in the midpoint of its five-year range between 14.14x and 23.16x. Turning to the charts, a recent pullback to key support levels in the three names discussed below provides several enticing trading opportunities.

V.F. Corporation (VFC)

V.F. Corporation (VFC) designs and markets branded lifestyle apparel through three business segments: Outdoor, Active, and Work and Jeans. Several of its better-known brands include North Face, Timberland, and Vans. Earlier this month, the $33.77 billion apparel giant said that it was reviewing strategic options that outfit U.S. workers for the occupational niche of its work division. As of Jan. 31, 2020, V.F. stock issues a 2.28% dividend yield and has advanced 9.6% over the past 12 months. Year to date, the shares are trading down about 15%.

The share price has retraced sharply in January, with losses accelerating when the company missed Wall Street's consensus revenue forecast. In recent trading sessions, V.F. stock has stabilized at the $82.50 level, where price encounters support from a 12-month uptrend line that coincides with an oversold relative strength index (RSI) reading. Swing traders should consider setting a profit target near the 52-week high at $100 while managing risk with a stop placed underneath the late October low at $80.65.

PVH Corp. (PVH)

PVH Corp. (PVH) markets branded apparel in more than 40 countries, distributing its clothing wholesale to retailers and through company-owned stores. The company behind brands Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and Van Heusen entered into a licensing agreement with NIKE, Inc. (NKE) last year to design, market, and distribute Nike-branded men's underwear. Digital transformation efforts also remain a priority, with the firm recently creating PVH Digital Assistant, an artificial intelligence-driven mobile app aimed at improving productivity, increasing sales, and enhancing customers' in-store experience. PVH shares have a market value of $6.67 billion, yield 0.17%, and are trading down 13.08% on the year as of Jan. 31, 2020.

After four months of steady gains, PVH shares have started the year with a wave of profit-taking. Active traders should use the early-year pullback as a buying opportunity given the price finds crucial support from the neckline of a textbook inverse head and shoulders pattern. Similar to the case of VFC, the RSI indicates oversold conditions for PVH shares – increasing the chance of an upside reversal. Those who take an entry around $90 should look for a move back up to key resistance levels levels at $107 and $133. Exit if the stock fails to hold above $85.

Ralph Lauren Corporation (RL)

With an $8.67 billion market cap, Ralph Lauren Corporation (RL) markets and distributes lifestyle products in North America and globally. The New York upscale clothing company's flagship brands include Polo Ralph Lauren, Chaps, Double RL, and Club Monaco. Despite the firm's North American revenue dipping 1% in the third quarter, sales growth in Europe and Asia of 3% and 4%, respectively, helped the company surpass analysts' top-line forecasts for the period. Wall Street has a 12-month price target on the stock at $125, which is 7.5% above Thursday's $116.25 close. As of Jan. 31, 2020, Ralph Lauren stock has edged 0.83% lower this month.

Buyers appear to be defending the premium clothing maker's share price at $112.50 – an area where it finds a confluence of support from an inverse head and shoulders neckline and a trendline extending back to late August. The formation of a bullish engulfing pattern over the past two trading sessions adds further conviction at these levels. In terms of trade management, traders could set a stop under the Jan.28 low at $111.27 and bank profits on a run-up to the April 2019 swing high near $130.

49ers Super Bowl apparel unwanted here, but transformational when donated overseas - The Mercury News

Posted: 03 Feb 2020 12:20 PM PST

A little more than two weeks ago, 49ers players giddily slipped on T-shirts and caps proclaiming them NFC champions.

Sunday, those items, proclaiming the 49ers Super Bowl champions were, understandably, nowhere to be found after the team's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. After all, who wants victory apparel they didn't earn?

You might be surprised.

Soon those items will be headed overseas to excited recipients who have no idea what a 49er is.

Good360, which bills itself "the global leader in product philanthropy and purposeful giving," will donate the apparel to a pre-approved overseas community of need, vetted by Good360's partnering nonprofits.

This is the sixth year that Alexandria, Virginia-based Good360 has donated what they call unsaleable items from the NFL's conference championships and the Super Bowl. (It took over from World View International, a humanitarian and aid organization.) It has the same agreement with Major League Baseball.

Last year $330 million in goods were distributed, according to Shari Rudolph, Good360's Chief Development Officer.

"We understand here in the U.S. the sensitive nature of the goods. Overseas, nobody really understands what the NFL is. It's really meaningful and transformational for the community," Rudolph said. "The goods have a useful life in the hands of people and not in landfills. There's a universal sense of gratitude and gratefulness."

It will take about two months for donations from the 49ers locker room Sunday night to reach its destination, Rudolph said. It's not unusual for donations to be directed to communities hit by unrest and natural disaster.

According to mentalfloss.com:

Donations from the 2009 Super Bowl, in which the Arizona Cardinals were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers, went to El Salvador.

In 2010 (New Orleans Saints over the Indianapolis Colts) donations went to Haiti, which was recovering from an earthquake.

In 2011 (Green Bay Packers over the Pittsburgh Steelers) donations were directed to Zambia, Armenia, Nicaragua, and Romania.

Editor's note: An earlier version said $330 million worth of championship-related apparel was donated last year by Good360, but that figure reflects its total contributions, not just NFL and MLB championship apparel.
