Dr. Dre has been working on Detox for like ten years now, and a release date is still not in sight. His long time friend and former group member (from NWA days), DJ Yella recently spoke to HipHopDX about his opinion on Dre's Detox album.
"I saw him (Dre) about a few months ago. Well, when I was in the studio, he was workin’ on a new Eminem song [from MMLP2]. I heard something for Detox, but that was three years ago. They were great tracks, but you know, I don’t know if he really wants to put it out or…he’s such a perfectionist that if it ain’t perfect, it ain’t gonna be out. So I don’t know, and he doesn’t have to put it out. There’s no need to."
Yea, there is no need to put out the album. Dre is a legend and has gotten his place in Hip Hop history regardless if he put out the album or not. I don't think Detox will see the light of day any time soon. Dre like's to have an army around him when he drops albums, and he doesn't have that right now. With the first Chronic album, he had The D.O.C, Snoop and the Dog Pound with him; with the second Chronic,he had Eminem, Snoop, Hittman, Xzibit, Kurupt, and Nate Dogg with him. He would have been able to pull it off a couple of years back when he had Game, Eminem, 50 Cent and the whole G-Unit movement going, but the beef between 50 and Game destroyed all chances for that to happen. Right now, Dr. Dre is more concerned on how much his Beats By Dre headphones bring in yearly than anything else.
